What is it?
Good Vibes are proud to be putting on a showcase concert at the Newbury Corn Exchange as part of the 2024 Newbury Spring Festival.
As part of the showcase, we’re running a competition to from a house band that will close the show and perform two tracks: Sweet Child O’ Mine (Guns N’ Roses) and Good Vibrations (Beach Boys).
Those who join the band will receive:
13hours of fully coached band rehearsal time
Mentor session on your specific instrument
A day working industry pro and producer, Jon Cohen.
Perform in front of a sold out venue seating around 350 audience with full lighting, sounds and special effects rig.
Who is Jon Cohen?
Jon is an award winning producer, composer and arranger. He has worked with artists such as George Michael, Joss Stone, Nile Rodgers, Will Young, Lady Gaga and Rhianna. He’s been nominated for 17 BRIT awards, received 1 Grammy Nomination and sold over 3.5million albums.
He’s serious!
Not only that, he’s a really lovely guy too and you’ll get to spend 5 hours with him learning from his experience and expertise as well as having the opportunity to pick his brains about his career and the industry.

BAND MEMBERS
We are looking for a minimum of:
2 guitarists
1 bassist
1 drummer
1 vocalist
AGES & STandard
The competition is open to anyone aged under 18 on the date of the concert (20th May 2024) and playing to a level of around grade 7.
Commitment
This is a high profile event and so commitment to rehearsal and performance dates is essential. Please only enter if you can commit to all dates (see FAQs for dates).
Auditions
Entry is via a recorded video audition playing our new arrangement of Sweet Child O’ Mine. You can download a copy of the music and backing track below.

No, its completely free to enter and no cost to take part at all. Tickets for concert will be available here. Public booking open on 5th March.

This competition is limited to guitar, bass, drums and vocals. Unfortunately, we can’t accomodate additional instruments on this ocassion.

Absolutely! The grade 7 is just a guide - it doens’t matter whether you have taken the exam or not, as long as you are working around that level or higher.
