Do We Teach Grades at Good Vibes?

Here at Good Vibes we understand that every student’s musical journey is unique. Whether you dream of creating music, shredding a rock solo on stage, or simply want to enjoy playing your favorite tunes, we’re here to support you. One of the common questions we receive from both parents and students is, "Do you teach grades at Good Vibes?" The answer is yes—we do! But with a twist that aligns with our philosophy of nurturing individual musical expression.

Yes, We Teach Grades!

For those who are interested in formal music education and accreditation, we offer comprehensive grade-based instruction. Our experienced pros guide students through the grading systems of ABRSM, Trinity Rock & Pop, and Trinity Classical & Jazz, covering grades 1 through 8. These recognized qualifications can be an excellent way to measure progress, set goals, and achieve a high standard of musicianship.

Why Grades Might Be Right for You

For some students, following a graded syllabus is a perfect fit. It provides a clear structure, benchmarks progress, and gives a sense of accomplishment with each certificate earned. Additionally, for those considering music as a serious pathway—whether it’s for UCAS points for uni applications or a professional career—graded exams can be a valuable asset.

But Grades Aren't Everything

At Good Vibes, we recognize that not every student thrives in a graded environment. Some might find the structure restrictive or the pressure of exams daunting. That’s why we make it clear that while we teach grades, they are not the only path to becoming a skilled and confident musician (far from it!). Our approach is flexible, and we tailor lessons to suit the individual needs and aspirations of each student.

Our focus is on nurturing Ability, Creativity, and Musicality. We believe that these three elements are essential in creating well-rounded players who not only play notes but also explore their creativity. Whether you're working through graded material or exploring music more freely, our goal is to develop these core aspects in every student.

Just starting and not sure about grades?

For students who are just starting out on their musical journey, we’ve developed our Good Vibes Star Levels. These levels are designed for pre-grade 1 students, providing a fun and engaging introduction to music. The Star Levels focus on building a strong foundation in the basics of music, such as rhythm, pitch, and instrument technique, ensuring that when students are ready to progress to graded exams, they have the skills and confidence to do so.

Our Star Levels are all about sparking a love for music and making sure that early learning experiences are positive and inspiring. By focusing on the fundamentals, we help students develop the ability and musicality they need to succeed in whichever path they choose.

Exam Centre in Newbury

For those students who do decide to pursue graded exams, we’ve made the process as seamless as possible by becoming an official exam centre. This means that our students can take their ABRSM, Trinity Rock & Pop, and Trinity Classical & Jazz exams right here at Good Vibes Music Academy, in a familiar and supportive environment. This convenience removes the stress of traveling to unfamiliar locations on exam day and helps students perform their best in a comfortable setting.

The Good Vibes Approach: Find Your Musical Path

At Good Vibes Music Academy, we believe that music education should be as unique as the student. Whether you’re aiming for the top grades or simply want to enjoy making music, we’re here to support your journey. Our focus on Ability, Creativity, Musicality, Collaboration and Performance ensures that every student can grow as a musician in a way that resonates with them.
